FAO Schwarz Fellowship Application

Instructions

Please review the following before submitting your application. All applications are due before February 1, 2026 at 9:00 PM ET.

Applications received after that date will not be considered. We strongly encourage you to apply at least a few days before the deadline.

1. CONFIRM YOUR ELIGIBILITY

There are two requirements for eligibility. Applications from ineligible candidates cannot be accepted or acknowledged.

First, you must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the two-year Fellowship. U.S. citizens, born or naturalized, are generally authorized to work in the United States, while foreign nationals may be authorized if they have an immigration status that allows them to work. The Fellowship cannot assist you in obtaining work authorization.

Second, you must be on track to graduate in good standing with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university between November 2025 and the summer of 2026.

2. PREPARE YOUR RESUME FOR UPLOAD

Prepare a résumé (1 page). You must upload your résumé (PDF) as part of the application.

Use your name to title your PDF as follows SARA-CASTRO-RESUME.pdf

A cover letter is not required.

3. DETERMINE YOUR COLLEGE'S CODE

Please be sure to use the FAFSA code and not the College Board (CEEB) code. The look-up below will give you the correct code for your college.

4. PREVIEW THE APPLICATION FORM

You must apply online.

Since the application form includes four short-answer questions, we encourage you to preview the application carefully and prepare your answers in advance so that you can cut and paste. Preview and dowload a copy of the application by clicking the button below.

5. COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM

Complete the form online and upload your résumé.

You must complete the application in one sitting. You will not be able to save and return to the application at a later time. Review your answers carefully before you hit submit as you will not be able to edit your application once it is submitted..

6. CLICK SUBMIT

You will receive a pop-up confirmation if your submission was successful and a copy of your submission by email.

Applying for Multiple Fellowship Positions

You may apply for more than one Fellowship position. If you are applying for both Reading Partners Fellowships or both 826 Boston Fellowships, you can indicate this on the application. The application will give you the option to respond differently for each position, if you desire.

If you are applying for Fellowships offered by different hosts, submit a new application for each host.

Applications for each position are considered individually and independently by the host organizations.

What happens next...

Host organizations will review applications carefully. They will notify candidates advancing to the Semifinalist round by the end of February about interviews.

After Semifinalist interviews are complete, Hosts will select and notify candidates for a Finalist round in March. At that time, the Fellowship shares the names of candidates designated as Finalists with the candidate’s college fellowship adviser.

Hosts then complete their hiring process and select their Fellow(s) and notify Finalists of their decision by the end of April.
